Andrea Aragon American

For Andrea Aragon, Los Angeles’ distinct urban landscape, an environment saturated with graffiti, street vendors, and a deeply rich cultural heritage, helps fuel her unique artistic practice. Just as the Impressionist painters of the nineteenth century sought to capture the ephemeral spirit of the landscapes around them, Aragon seeks to emulate the aura of her particular subjects by using an impregnation of varying tones, figures, symbols in her works. Growing up in Los Angeles, Aragon cultivated a deep appreciation for the people around her, and the portraits in this exhibition reflect the artist’s interest in depicting figures on the outskirts of society – those individuals who are regularly ignored and forgotten.
